History of the College

In 2005, known as Foothills Christian Bible College, we were originally developed from the vision, planning, and dedication of a devoted group of pastors from Wilkes County, North Carolina.  Realizing the need to assist ministers who had the heart and dedication but lacked the education and training for the ministry, these spiritual leaders united to form a part-time evening school for pastors.

Within that first year, the leaders saw more than just pastors who were interested in the Biblical teaching offered at Foothills.  Laypersons and women also populated the classes along with the attending pastors.   What began as a small group of local preachers quickly developed into a diverse multigenerational group of disciples.

In 2007, due to the growth of the college, the Brushy Mountain Association donated fifteen acres of land upon which existed a campus of six buildings with a total of 85,000 square feet.  The first classes at our new campus were held in July 2007.  After being blessed with leaders, educators and the opportunity for physical expansion, the next step in our academic growth plan is the accreditation process.

In May 2009, the college became known as Foothills Christian College when our plans expanded with the offer of both Associate Degrees and Bachelor Degrees for our students.  With the dawning of our degrees and new direction, the 2009-2010 academic year brought students who were from diverse ministries, originating from distances as far as China, Maine, California and Florida.  This expansion also allowed the opportunity of daytime and evening classes to accommodate the working professionals in the surrounding areas.  With the close of the academic year, a total of 8 certificates and degrees were awarded to the graduating class, including an honorary doctorate degree.

In January of 2011, the college became known as Foothills Christian College & Seminary announcing our new advancements in our degree programs to students seeking careers in ministry.  Now offering a Bachelor Degree of Christian Ministry and a Master Degree of Christian Ministry with minor concentrations in Biblical Studies and Visionary Leadership, Foothills is able to serve those seeking graduate studies.  With our online studies program and our Main Campus located in Wilkesboro, NC opportunities have opened for both students who are local and nationwide.  With exciting changes for our students and their training, our growth here at Foothills has only begun.

Although our history is brief, our future is as bright as our students, visionary educators, and dedicated staff which populate our campuses.  God has proven Himself faithful to Foothills Christian College & Seminary and demonstrated His plans which are not limited by man’s abilities or opportunities.  This college is a testament to God’s desire for this community to unite believers with a common vision in order to minister to a world in need of Him.

Now offering a Bachelor Degree of Christian Ministry and a Master Degree of Christian Ministry with minor concentrations in Biblical Studies and Visionary Leadership, Foothills is able to serve those seeking graduate studies.
