Our Philosophy of Christian Education

Our Christian education is founded upon the following five basic principles:

Spirit and Truth

Christian education is the sum total of experience that shapes one’s mind and heart. Distinctively Biblical learning is a process the Holy Spirit, through the Word of God, directs a student’s life.

Student Relation

The student is the object of a Biblical Christian education. Therefore, as the object of the educational process, the student is held responsible for the preparation to learn. This preparation should be motivated by the love of Christ and a desire to do His will. The student’s responsibility is to diligently pursue an understanding of God’s truth. This truth is to be sought after for a lifetime. The sound mind which God the Holy Spirit has given is continually hungry for truth. Thus, there should never be a quenching of this pursuit. In areas not specified by the doctrinal statement, students are free to hold and express individual convictions. While guidelines are provided through this philosophy, students are encouraged to think for themselves and to make intelligent decisions based on principles in God’s Word.

Faculty Guidance

The role of the faculty members is more than instructors or a facilitators. Perhaps a more appropriate description of a Christian teacher is guide. The teacher guides the students into a balance of the power of the Holy Spirit, through the process of relating truth to every day life. Thus, modeling becomes the most fundamental essential to the teaching-learning process as students observe God’s truth demonstrated in the life of the teacher.

Balance of Goals and Objectives

If Biblical Christian education is a process of learning in which the goal is to develop and train students to carry out His divine imperative in “the Great Commission,” then Christian education as a discipline needs to study the ways and means for Christians to fulfill that purpose. We strive to encourage five necessary objectives to balance Christian education: (1) know God, (2) have a biblical world view, (3) know man, (4) know truth through the Spirit and (5) have Biblical values.

Balanced Curriculum

To be conformed to the Christian life, curriculum must be chosen that is related to the needs, purposes and interests of the students. Notwithstanding, there is a breakdown today between the so-called secular education and Christian education. A proper balance and understanding of the relationship between divine and human knowledge will not only increase the resources of the Christian but also broaden his concept of the total Christian educational experience. For Christian educators, the concept of the unity of truth will demand an integration of the Christian and secular education with a proper balance on both. If there is truth in the secular, then it is important to Biblical Christians to carefully utilize and appreciate it.
