2012 Spring Course Descriptions

AP 220 Christian Apologetics  3 Hours          

This course will provide the student with tools for defending biblical truth and historic Christianity. Students will be required to engage an unbeliever in an apologetic encounter for the purpose of sharing the Gospel.

ED 200 Bible Teaching Methods  3 Hours

This course examines the dynamics and principles of learning and teaching the Bible.  It also allows the student to utilize creative methods within an actual teaching experience.

EV 300/EV 500 Evangelism/Contemporary Evangelism  3 Hours

This course will give a biblical, theological, and historical overview of evangelism. In addition, guided by the instructor, students will be required to practice the Christian discipline of sharing their faith with others.

HM 401/HM 501 Biblical Preaching I/Advanced Biblical Preaching I     3 Hours

This course is an introduction to homiletics through proper biblical exposition and sermon delivery with application to the contemporary life. The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with the exegetical, theological, and practical content of Christian preaching.

HM 402/HM 502 Biblical Preaching II/Advanced Biblical Preaching II   3 Hours

An introduction to the preaching narrative, the course will give attention to theological development, sermon structures, oral clarity, the public reading of Scriptures, and long-term sermon development.  Students will preach and receive evaluation from fellow students and the professor.

MN 310 Life and Work of the Minister  3 Hours

This is an introductory course for those who wish to minister within the body of Christ. The diverse elements of Christian ministry will be examined so that each student can develop a sense of the tasks that will be required of them.

MN 450 Ministry Practicum I  3 Hours      

This course allows the student directed engagement in ministry and will be assessed by both the Academic Advisor and the host mentor on the field.

MS 300/MS 500 Christian Missions  3 Hours

A study of world missions today with various perspectives on the world Christian movement, this course includes an overview of the Biblical basis for missions as well as a brief history of missions.

NT 211/NT 511 New Testament I/Advanced New Testament I   3 Hours

This course provides a more thorough survey of the New Testament Scripture in order to acquaint the student with the historical framework, geography, characters, and the content of the text. The Gospels and Acts will be presented in this course.

NT 212/NT 512 New Testament Survey II/Advanced New Testament II   3 Hours

This course is the continuation of NT 211. The books of the New Testament from Romans to Revelation will be presented in this course.

NT 325/NT 525 Matthew  3 Hours

This course is an exegetical and expositional study of Matthew.  The study will include textual, literal, and cultural issues distinctive to Matthew’s Gospel. Furthermore, the theological focus will emphasize the Messiah as the King of the Jews and the Kingdom of Heaven on earth fulfilling Abrahamic promises.

OT 211/OT 511 Old Testament Survey I/Advanced Old Testament    3 Hours

This course surveys the Old Testament Scripture in order to acquaint the student with the historical framework, geography, characters, and the content of the text. Each book will be examined in its contextual relation to the other canonical writings. The Pentateuch and the Historical books will also be discussed.

OT 212/OT 512 Old Testament Survey II/Advanced Old Testament II   3 Hours

This course is a continuation of OT 211. The Poetic Books and the Major and Minor Prophets will be discussed.

RE 335 Cults   3 Hours

This course examines the wide ranging scope of cults which have ties to Christianity to those which have little if any Christian connection.

TH 110/TH 510 Spiritual Formation/Advanced Spiritual Formation  3 Hours

Spiritual Formation is a practical study of the theology of life in the image of Christ and some Biblical principles that guide the development and maintenance of that Christ-like life, in the lives of Christians. The study will include consideration of the Biblical directions for appropriating the spirituality and victory that Jesus Christ gives for faithful Christian living.

TH 201/TH 501 Biblical Theology I/Advanced Biblical Theology I    3 Hours

This course is a very detailed, highly organized study of Bible Doctrine. Unlike many theology courses, it is entirely based on the Bible and not the writings of men. It is specifically designed to build a solid foundation in biblical truth. The doctrines of God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit will be discussed.

TH 202/TH502 Biblical Theology II /Advanced Biblical Theology II  3 Hours

TH 211/TH 511 Kingdom and Covenants  3 Hours

This course is a theocratic study of God’s Kingdom program throughout the Scriptures, tracing its origin, historical development, and its ultimate consummation in the reign of Christ and the fulfillment of Biblical covenants.

VL 301/VL 501 Development of the Leader   3 Hours

This course is designed to address the basics of the life of the leader including art of self leadership, personal integrity, personal core values as well as the basic of leadership development.

VL 303/VL 503 Development Leadership Skills  3 Hours

This course will allow students to develop a balanced approach to ministry leadership. To assess personal leadership strengths and weaknesses and to identify appropriate leadership styles to differing situations.
